Tonight’s wine is « #Changyu Longyu Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2021 ». This wine is produced by awinery located in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region in inland China, which was awarded the title of « Best in China » at an international wine competition. The region is blessed with severe temperature differences and a dry climate, and is attracting attention as a source of high quality wines.
The color is a very deep ruby. On the palate, the wine is fullof concentrated fruit flavors reminiscent of Grenache and Syrah from the Languedoc. Layers of ripe plums and blackberries appear one after another, giving the impression of layers of paint. Slightly black pepper and smoky nuances add complexity and depth to the palate. Its rough, wild and powerful character is a fresh surprise that is different from the French Bordeaux wines we are usually accustomed to.
This wine was paired with roast beef from Shimane Wagyu. Shimane Wagyu, which won first place at the National Wagyu Beef Proficiency Test 2022, is characterized by its delicate flavor and sweet fat, which is enhanced by the roast beef. The rich fruitiness of the wine harmonizes with the juicy flavor of the Wagyu beef, and the sweetness of the fat enhances the spiciness of the wine, making for an exquisite marriage.
Furthermore, I learned that « Ningxia » and « Shimane Prefecture » have been friendship town since 2001 and have continued exchanges in the fields of culture and agriculture. Ningxia’s wine developed in the harsh natural environment adjacent to the Gobi Desert, and Shimane’s Wagyu beef is nurtured by the rich natural environment. This pairing, which has different backgrounds but complements each other, seems to embody the special bond spun by culture and nature. The evening was a memorable and luxurious one, woven together with emotion and harmony.
