Distinct Flavors of Purple Air Cabernet
#Repost @ruchneo with @use.repost・・・First experience with @changyumoserxv Purple Air. But I was able to clock it in the blind line up because of that very specific mace +coriander with black fruit quality that the China Moser cabs display - unlike any cab I’ve ever tasted. Lenz says it’s the small cab berries + winemaking + Swiss acacia barrel ageing that all contribute to the uniquesness of this wine! the ‘16 that followed it was superb. Magnificent vintage to boot. The spices mellowed out whilst remaining distinct and brought out a lot of venison like sweet game flavours with. This was part of a mega lineup of 10 seen and 8 blind Super -Cabs from across the globe organised by the inimitable @stefanthesommelier_ms and the man himself - @lenz_m_moser Total privilege to have been in attendance. My numero uno was the Blanc De Noir barrique aged MoserXV Cabernet that was paired with a delicious Montelena 2020 chard that was drinking superbly. I swear I would not have guessed it was a BdN Cabernet had it been in a black glass. All the heft of a serious creamy, juicy chard with malo. The Lafite 2019 and the Opus 2019 were also shining and rather oddly approachable with just 3 years under their belts. The 2018 Sassicaia was a bit underwhelming and I own a double mag of it so it had better improve!
