How to Wine Series: Decanting Techniques
Welcome to our 'How to Wine' short series! (Part 2/3)Catching up with our last part, we will continue learning how to pour our wine into a 'decanter'.The decanter's purpose is to let the wine 'breathe', allowing the wine to soak up more air, soften the flavors, and release more aromas before tasting. Thus, this explains why our honored guest in the video spun the decanter vertically vigorously in a small quantity and tastes the wine himself for quality insurance. The steps mentioned in the video (continued):Step 5: Color and smell - brief glance at the color through the candlelight tells you the color of the wine and a sniff inside the glass gives you a visualization of the wine profile. Though this step is mostly for quality insurance to check if there's anything off.Step 6: Decanter - slowly and gently pour the wine into the decanter and spins it vertically or horizontally in a circular motion, depending on the shape. There are many shapes and variations of decanter but we won't discuss that today.Step 7: Taste - holds the decanter firmly depending on the shape. If the decanter has a 'punt' (the dented part usually located in the bottom of a wine bottle/decanter), one can hold it by the punt with their thumb and allow four other fingers to latch on the decanter body. For the purpose of quality insurance, as long as the wine doesn't contain any strange tastes or pungent/sour tastes, it is ready to be served. (given that you haven't tasted the wine before). That's it for today's episode! Look forward to the last episode of this series coming next week!Salute!#chinesewine #ningxia #trynewthings #discovernewwines #winelover #lovewine #ningxiawine #chateauchangyumoserxv #葡萄酒 #wineinstagram #howtowine #howto #sommelier
