Purple Air: China’s Icon Wine Spotlighted

Repost from @eatsleep_winerepeatThe Icon wine of China?🍷🇨🇳Yesterdays post was about Chateau @changyumoserxv & as you know, you can hear all about them from the mouth of talented winemaker @lenz_m_moser on my latest podcast 🎧💜 But their icon PURPLE AIR COMES FROM THE EAST certainly needs a little bit more attention. It was back in 2015 in the summer, Lenz was down in the south of China - Qingdao. There was a Chinese calligrapher who painted him a special piece of art with just four letters. Taking about half an hour to do these four characters with a thick brush & in purple (Lenz’ favourite colour), these four Chinese characters read: Purple air comes from the east.It basically means: All the love, the power, the richness and all things come from across the 🌊 East China Sea to mainland China. It is a very positive metaphor for 🍀 luck and 💰fortune. The dream began in 2015 but Lenz didn't have the grapes for it yet. Being his maiden vintage, he was very cautious. But in 2016 he designated some vineyards to blend from & with proper barrel management he was able to produce the first vintage of this special wine.🍇 100% Cab Sauv aged in new French oak barrels for 2 years.👃 The nose is concentrated & filled with luscious sweet, vibrant fruits. Loads of black berries, forest fruits & chocolate covered blueberries. Loads of dark chocolate shards with a touch of wood smoke & vanilla bean with a softness of mocha powder pushing through.👅The wine is dry, big, bold & smooth. Its certainly fruit driven with the complex nose coming through on the palate. There is incredibly high acid levels balancing the voluptuousness of the fruit & body. The tannins are medium plus & velvety with an enticingly long chalky mineral finish. This wine is all about power & elegance! We got some big & juicy beef ribs covered in sweet sticky BBQ sauce. Actually the sauce was a little bit too sweet for this wine – so I would still recommend some ribs but with a smokier sauce rather than BBQ. #chinesewine #winepodcast #ningxia #iconwines #chinesecalligraphy #love #luck #happiness #fortune
