China’s winemakers turn challenges into innovation, says Lenz Moser.
The Chinese believe that three elements hold the key to success: 'Heaven-Earth-People' : the natural conditions sent from heaven; the land; and the efforts of the people. This beautiful chapter in @jzwinepeek ’s new book 'The Chinese Wine Renaissance' (pg.78) @penguinrandomhouse acknowledges that some winemakers are blessed with superior terroir, while others, working with more challenging conditions, must be more creative.@lenz_m_moser 'We needed a white wine for the export market but current plantings of white varieties are not yet ready to make good quality white wines. I'd previously made a white wine in Austria from Cabernet Sauvignon ... it turned out to be very pleasant and aged well. If I don't have other good white grapes to work with now, I will make a white wine from Cabernet Sauvignon in China. The Chinese language reminds us that every crisis 'wei ji' -has two elements: a danger (wei) and an oppportunity (ji). We have problems but we have solutions as well.' #chinesewine #ningxia #wineofchina #winemakers #solutions #innovation #thechinesewinerenaissance
