Putting China on the Global Wine Map

When I deboarded the flight from Frankfurt to Beijing in August 2005 I had no idea where this adventure will take me. 20 years later, beyond my wildest dreams, we can proudly say that the VISION of Changyu and myself , “producing wines in the company of the world’s finest” has come true.
Well, step by step:
*** I went to China because I was curious and looking for a new & ultimate challenge. My 9 years with the family of Robert Mondavi ended when the company was sold to Constellation and I – for the second time in my life – wanted to re-invent myself ( the first time, I joined Robert Mondavi from my role as GM at Lenz Moser Winery in Austria )
*** The first 10 years cooperating with Changyu pioneer in Yantai resulted in a huge learning curve about the country, its culture and its potential. And, in all fairness it was of many projects I pursued at the same time - with a lack of foucs.
*** In 2015 chairman Zhou, ceo Sun and myself had legendary phone conversations resulting in the common goal to change the game for China, Changyu, produce “best of China” and also bring these wines to international markets, Europe first. My “carpe diem quam minimum credula postero” mantra ( cease the day and trust the least to the future ) let me take this chance at once. When do you get the chance to be part of something that big, helping a company, an entire country to go global with great wines, to be first in doing so.
*** It took ruthless and persistent execution against this plan, first and foremost though absolute focus on this exciting project.
*** The future will bring a new dimension of wines from China, Ningxia and the Changyu Moser XV. We are working on modern, authentic Chinese wines from the chateau. The smallest Cabernet Sauvignon berries in the world are the biggest asset for our endeavor to develop our own und mistakable style of wines.
